III. About

A practice of patience.

Huibrecht is a portrait artist based in Johannesburg, working in graphite, charcoal, and conté. Each piece begins with hours of looking — at the angle of a jaw, the weight of an eyelid, the way light gathers in the hollow of a temple.

Trained in the classical tradition and informed by years of life drawing, the work seeks not likeness alone but presence: the stillness of a person caught somewhere between thought and repose.

Studio practice is private and unhurried. Most works take between twelve and forty hours to complete.
